Bryan “BT” Thym-Lead Vocals, Trumpet, and Percussion (The guy in the Silver Jacket)

Bryan comes to Austin by way of the San Francisco Bay Area and San Jose State University where he received a BA in Music Education. He has studied with Grammy Award winning artist, Bobby McFerrin and has performed and recorded with Todd Rundgren. Bryan has also recorded with Clarence Clemmons, Grammy Winning Producer Narada Michael Walden and Vickie Randle, the percussionist for NBC’s Tonight Show Band. Locally, Bryan was the lead vocalist and trumpet player with The Nash Hernandez Orchestra for 5 years before starting The Time Machine and the The Groove Machine in 1999.


Jay "Super Jay" Crutcher – Lead Tenor Sax, Alto Sax, Vocals

Jay  Crutcher has over thirty years of experience as a talented composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, was a long-time veteran of the Los Angeles studio scene and began his career with the study of woodwinds, composition and theory under the tutelage of charter Glenn Miller band member, Hall Tennyson. After graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in Houston, Crutcher was awarded a full music scholarship to Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Relocating first to New York City, he studied multiple woodwinds with famed clarinetist/saxophonist Eddie Daniels. Crutcher then continued his studies of woodwinds, composition and piano in Los Angeles with studio giants such as Buddy Collette and Bill Green, and at the famed Dick Grove School of Music.

Over ten years in Los Angeles, Crutcher played saxophone and other woodwind instruments on hundreds of film, TV, commercial and album dates. He has performed and appeared with such diverse acts as Alphonse Mouson (Weather Report), Lionel Richie and the Commodores, Booker T. and the M.G.s, Eddie Daniels, The Emotions, Ronnie Laws, Austin's own Grammy Winning Asleep at the Wheel, the Elvin Bishop Band, the Coasters, and the Drifters among others.


Paul Stephens-Screaming Lead Trumpet

Paul is one of the most sought after trumpet players in the United States and made his mark nationally by performing for 10 years as the lead/1st trumpet player with the U.S. Air Force Bands. During his Air Force experience Paul performed for The President and Mrs. George Bush, Vice President Dan Quayle, Vice President Al Gore, Gen. Colin Powell, Lady Bird Johnson, Actor/Retired Gen. Jimmy Stewart, Ambassador Walter Mondale, as well as many other American and foreign dignitaries. Paul has over 20 years of experience as a professional lead trumpet player. He has performed as the lead trumpet player for such well known artists/groups as: Chicago, Maynard Ferguson, The Four Tops, Barry Manilow, Roy Clark, Bloodstone, Flash Cadillac, Gloria Gaynor, Heatwave, The Temptations, Vicki Carr & Bob Florence, Maureen McGovern, John Pizzarelli, The Hoagy Carmichael Orchestra, Ben Vereen, Nell Carter, Cleo Lane & John Dankworth, actor John Schneider, The Guy Lombardo Orchestra, The Ink Spots, The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Allen Vizzutti, Jeff Tyzik, The San Antonio Symphony, etc... Played musicals/shows such as: West Side Story, Sophisticated Ladies, Annie w/Sally Struthers, Victor-Victoria w/Toni Tenille, The Music Man w/Larry Gatlin, Fiddler On The Roof, Our Sinatra, and others. Recorded for: NHK, RCA, Verve, and Columbia performing everything from T.V. and radio shows, jingles, and commercials to motion picture soundtracks. 


John “Super Fly” Tolleson-Trombone, Vocals, Percussion, Conch Shell  (Pimp Suit)

John studied trombone and euphonium at the University of Texas with Donald Knaub and Steve Bryant. He also studied with jazz trombonist Ron Wilkins.  John’s musical performances have taken him to Europe, Japan, Korea, and throughout the United States. He has been a finalist in two international competitions on euphonium. John has performed with Slide Hampton, Mitch Watkins, Casino Royale and with international salsa stars Alex D'Castro and Johnny Rivera. Locally he plays with various big bands, Latin and salsa groups.  John teaches low brass private lessons in Hays County and Lake Travis schools and at local music studios.


Paul "The Groove" Garretson-Drums and Percussion

Paul has been playing professionally since the age of 14.  He received his BA in Music Ed. at Southwest Texas State University and his Masters in Music Performance at the University Of North Texas where he performed in the famed North Texas Lab Band.  While at North Texas, he performed with well-known artists such as Gladys Knight and the Pips, Sammy Davis Jr., Jim Nabors, and the Smothers Brothers.  Paul also worked for three years in Nashville as a freelance player and toured throughout the United States with contemporary Christian artists Bill Gaither and Farrell and Farrell.

Paul has lived in Austin since 1990 and has played with such well-known local artists as Tish Hinojosa, James Polk, Nobuko, Clay Blaker, Armin Marmalajo, Brian Barber Trio, and Mr. Fabulous.  He is currently the Percussion Director at Cedar Park High School and has a private teaching studio.


Bradley “Boogie Man” Taylor-Bass and Vocals (Extreme Bass)

Brad is a music theory graduate of the University of Texas and Southwest Texas State University. He received BM in Music Theory from UT and a Masters Degrees in Music Theory from SWT. He is from Austin and stays busy as a freelance player with many local bands. You may have seen him with groups such as Native Sun, Round Trip, Shawn Ellison, Los Jazz Vatos, River City Pops and The Nash Hernandez Orchestra. Brad has also performed with nationally known artist Sam Moore of Sam and Dave, and guitarist Bo Diddley.


Scott “Sugar” Cain-Stunt Guitar and Vocals (Leopard Jacket)

Scott is a graduate of North Texas State University with a degree in guitar performance. He has performed with such notables as Grammy Award winning artists Al DiMeola and Floyd Domino and with nationally known Broadway and television star, Shirley Jones.  He has performed and/or recorded with Rusty Weir, Kelley Grey, Mady Kaye, The Nash Hernandez Orchestra and Wayne “The Train” Hancock. International solo classical guitar performances have taken Scott to Spain, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. In 1979 he was selected by audition to perform for world-renown classical guitarist Andres Segovia of Spain. Locally, he has performed on local television commercials, jingles, and has worked with The Zachary Scott Theatre and Austin Symphony Chamber Orchestra.


C. "The Doctor," Winton Reynolds-Keyboards and Vocals

Winton Reynolds has received a Masters degree in Jazz Studies and a Doctorate in Composition from the Indiana University School of Music in Bloomington, IN. He has taught jazz piano, jazz history, and a wide array of music theory courses at Indiana University, Purdue University, and the University of Texas at Austin. Winton has been active as a freelance pianist/keyboardist and session musician in both Indianapolis, IN and Austin, TX. Since 1999 he has toured throughout the US and Canada as pianist for Rounder Records recording artist Carrie Newcomer.. Winton has also recorded and released a CD of his own jazz-fusion compositions and performs this music with his own group at jazz festivals around the country. Watch for his music at MP3.com.
